Background

The University of Eldoret was established upon the award of Charter by the President of the Republic of Kenya on 11th February, 2013 and has experienced continuous growth in students, human capital and infrastructure guided by its vision of “being a premier University that nurtures global leaders and innovators”. To leverage this growth, the University established the UOE Endowment Fund Trust whose overarching objective is to spur quality education, open new frontiers of innovations and ensure sustainable growth.

This was a dream and initiative of the University of Eldoret Chancellor, Amb. Prof. Judith Mbula Bahemuka, who felt that there was need to develop a successful and enduring model of higher education investment in Sub-saharan Africa as a gift to society. The Fund will consist of trusts or assets donated to or raised by the University with the intention of investing in perpetuity to yield an inflation-adjusted principal amount and provide a permanent source of income to support the University’s mission and programmes.

UOE Endowment Fund Trust seeks among other objectives to provide scholarships to bright, needy students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; support innovative cutting edge research; and develop capacity of staff in general especially young talented researchers. The Fund has been designed to run completely independent of the normal day-to-day activities of the University. It has a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the overall investment and opportunities of the Trust. The Trust will also endeavor to work with the community and stakeholders towards developing practical solutions to challenges facing our society.
