Consultative Meeting on UOE Endowment Fund Fundraising & Launch

The UoE Endowment Board of Trustees held a consultative meeting with the University Management to forge the way forward for fundraising and launching of the Endowment Fund. The meeting was held on 14th February 2023 at Serena Hotel, Nairobi.

The Chancellor Amb. Prof. Judith Mbula Bahemuka commended the milestones the Endowment Fund had made since 2017 when she conceptualized the idea. She thanked the Vice Chancellor Prof. Teresa Akenga for bringing on board great men and women to be the board of trustees for the EFT. She embraced upon the University Management and the board of trustees to make the UoE EFT unique, sustainable and value based.

In her remarks the Board of Trustees Chairperson, Sen. Prof. Margaret Kamar commended Amb. Prof. Bahemuka for handing over her dream of an Endowment Fund to the board of trustees. She applauded the university management for the support it has given to the board of trustees and for mobilizing staff to fundraise towards the UoE EFT.

The Chairman of Council Dr. Ismail Buro Hassan in his remarks applauded the staff for their sacrificial contributions so far to build the Endowment Fund, saying this was inspiring and attests to their commitment to achieve quality education in our university. He urged the Board of Trustees and the University Management to harness the extensive networks in sports, the private business, the political sphere, philanthropy, diplomatic and international linkages to ensure the success and sustainability of UoE Endowment Fund.

Prof. Akenga on her part congratulated the UoE EFT board chairperson Sen. Prof Kamar for her nomination as a senator and Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok for his appointment as Principal Secretary, State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services. She noted that UoE produces giants as the two had been part of UoE before moving out to serve the people of Kenya in other capacities. She appreciated the Chancellor for birthing the idea of an endowment fund and thanked the board of trustees for the great milestones that the EFT had made.

Other members present during the meeting included: Member of Board of Trustees Mr. Ajay Shah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (PRE) Prof. Phillip Raburu, Chairperson EFT transition Committee Prof. James Ole Kiyiapi, Member of transition committee Prof. David Some, Interim Administrator EFT Dr. Georgine Kemboi and Dr. Victoria Anjichi.
